What is this thing?

Does anyone know what this little doo-dad is on one (only one) of the seat stays on my 70s Corsaro 12-speed?  I've never seen one before and can't imagine what purpose it serves.

It's on the inside of the stay and it's maybe a quarter-inch long.  It's got a flattened end, kind of disc-shaped.

Anyone?

  1. Hi Mike,

This is a chain hanger. When you remove your wheel to fix a flat or true the wheel you hang the chain on this little hook so that it does not drag on the top of the chain stay and ruin the paint. At one time you could purchase them separately and they had a self sticking adhesive strip on the back to stick to your seat stay.

  2. @Anon, Thank you!!! Very grateful. To think, I've had the back wheel off three times in the last few days (changing and re-changing tires) and never took advantage of it!

  3. Anon,
I changed tires (yet again... long story) the other day and used the chain hanger! Thanks again!
